Leonard (Butch) Joyce, P.E.
Founder & President
Growing up near Martinsville, Virginia, instilled in Butch a fondness for the enjoying the outdoors and the small communities of southside VA. Staying in the area to attend college at Virginia Tech, he earned a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, enjoying the problem-solving puzzles central to the discipline, not to mention the opportunity to work outdoors.
Asked what inspired him to start his own firm, he jokes “I was never good at being an employee, I wanted to be the boss” The rest is truly history.
In addition to overseeing four regional branches, Butch works closely with clients caring deeply about the details. “I love to help clients find smart solutions to their problems, and opportunities to create value for their businesses. I also enjoy collaborating with team members on projects, lending my knowledge and experience wherever I can.”
Married to his wife Judy since 1978, Butch has three children and two grandchildren, and also makes time to offer resources and support to local and international ministries and missionaries. “My wife and I support Christian missionaries and ministries globally , Needle’s Eye Ministries in Richmond, and many others that have touched our hearts.”
Off the clock, you’ll find Butch riding a‘56 Ferguson F40 antique farm tractor around his property or tending to his flower gardens. He also serves as an elder for Stony Point Church. Asked if retirement is anywhere on the horizon he says, “I’m enjoying the work far too much. Helping clients find the best possible solutions to their challenges is a win for both of us. Solving those puzzles never loses its appeal.”
