Local Government Certification for New VPDES Permitted Landfills
The Commonwealth of Virginia DEQ Division of Water Quality Programs has issued a new guidance document concerning new VPDES permits Ð general and individual Ð for new landfills**. Local government certification is now a VPDES permit requirement for a new landfill, effective July 1, 2006.
**The certification requirement applies only to new landfills located in watershed protection districts established prior to the date specified in the legislation. This is not a general requirement for all new landfills.
