DEQ Issues Reminder

On March 19th, DEQ issued a reminder to all current Solid Waste Management Plan holders of the pending deadline for updating their Solid Waste Management Plans. In case you did not receive a copy, one is provided below.

This letter is a reminder that complete, revised Solid Waste Management Plans should be submitted to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) on or before July 1, 2004.

The Virginia Code, at '10.1-1411, directs the Virginia Waste Management Board (Board) to promulgate regulations specifying requirements for local and regional solid waste management plans. The Board amended the Regulations for Solid Waste Management Planning (9 VAC 20-130-10 et seq.) effective August 1, 2001, and the amendment to the regulations removed the requirement for the five-year update to existing solid waste plans. However, section 9 VAC 20-130-110.B of the amended regulations states: "A complete, revised solid waste management plan in compliance with this chapter shall be provided to the department no later than July 1, 2004." If you believe for any reason that you will not be able to submit the plan by the deadline, we ask that you notify the Department as soon as possible of the reasons for the delay and include the date by which you expect to submit the plan. Please note that this notification does not constitute an extension of the due date.
