General Assembly to Convene on January 8, 2003

The General Assembly has announced that it will convene on January 8, 2003 and has also set the following calendar for January and February of 2003.

Important dates for JANUARY 2003 include:

Friday, the 3rd: All requests for redrafts and corrections for legislation to be prefiled to Legislative services by 5:00 p.m.; All requests for drafts, redrafts, and corrections of legislation creating or continuing a study to Legislative Services by 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday, the 7th: All covered drafts of legislation to be prefiled available at Legislative Services by noon; All requests for drafts, redrafts, and corrections for first-day introduction bills to Legislative Services by 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday, the 8th: Prefiling ends at 10:00 a.m.; General Assembly convenes (noon); Joint Assembly; Continued legislation reported; Last day to file with the clerk charter, claims, local fiscal and correctional impact, sales and property tax exemption, and VRS bills and legislation creating or continuing a study

Friday, the 10th: All requests for drafts, redrafts, and corrections must be received by Legislative Services by 5:00 p.m.

Friday, the 17th: All bills and joint resolutions filed with the clerk by 5:00 p.m.; VRS impact statements due

Important dates for FEBRUARY 2003 include:

Sunday, the 2nd: Committees responsible for the Budget Bill to finish work by midnight

Tuesday, the 4th: Each house to finish its own legislation, except the Budget Bill; Amendments to the Budget Bill available by noon

Wednesday, the 5th: Each house may consider only legislation and amendments of the other house, except Budget Bill

Wednesday, the 12th: Last day for each house to act on the Budget Bill and revenue bills of the other house and appoint conferees by midnight

Friday, the 14th: All requests for drafts, redrafts, and corrections for joint commending and memorial resolutions to Legislative Services by 5:00 p.m.

Saturday, the 22nd: Sine die
