Important Reminder!

Virginia Water and Waste Permit fees will TRIPLE on July 1, 2002! The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is promulgating emergency regulations to institute the temporary fee increase approved by the 2002 General Assembly. There is a sunset clause on the fee increase of June 1, 2004. Before then, DEQ will amend the current permit fee regulations for a more permanent permit fee schedule.

Permit applications and permit amendment applications submitted before July 1 will NOT be subject to the fee increase, provided the application fees are also submitted before July 1st. Please plan accordingly!

On a related note, DEQ is hosting the following meeting on June 17, 2002, at 1:30 at DEQ headquarters: DEQ Permit Fee and Program Funding Study Planning Meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to assist the Secretary of Natural Resources and DEQ in preparing a long-term plan to fund DEQ’s water and waste regulatory programs. The meeting is open to the public, and interested parties are encouraged to attend.
