Legislative Update!!!
According to the General Assembly web page, at this afternoons veto session, Senate Bill (SB) 592, which would impose a $5/ton surcharge on solid waste disposal at landfills, has been recommitted to the Senate Agriculture, Conservation, and Natural Resources Committee. The Governors amendments that imposed the fee were deemed by the Senate to be "not specific and severable" (able to be acted upon individually), allowing the referral back to committee.
The Committee will consider the bill for next session, treating the bill as if it were just introduced. For an explanation of how a bill becomes law in Virginia, use the link below for access to a useful Citizens Guide.
